Prison Ministry

Prison Ministry Information

Every Friday from 7:30p.m. – 9:00p.m. different groups of men and women in our church go into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison to bring the good news of Jesus Christ & His redeeming power to over 100 inmates. Also our church joins with Innerfaith Prison Ministry to do state prison crusades. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the church office (225) 654-8925.

Here is a testimony from one of the men involved:

The prison ministry opened my eyes to the need behind bars. I used to think that trying to minister to a prisoner was a lost cause because of who they are and where they were. I was scared the first time I went into the prison because of how prisons can be portrayed on television. To hear the slamming of the automatic doors for the first time can be a scary experience. Once I was inside I didn’t know what to expect from the inmates as we walked on the prison yard. It doesn’t take long though to realize that there are a lot of hurting people inside of the prisons. They need to know that someone loves them. The prison yards are ripe for harvest, we just need men and women that can get past the fear of going into the prisons. Just one time and you will know they need to know the love of Jesus. It is a ministry that not a lot of people want to be involved with, but ask any of our guys that go to parish prison and you will know what an awesome privilege and honor it is to be amongst those men. Every trip I take to parish prison or a state facility, I get blessed way more than I could ever bless those men. We need to reach out and love the prisoners right where they are. Jesus loved us right where we were, and we should do as Jesus does. Pray what God would have you do in the new year. You may not be called to prison ministry, but we are all called to minister the gospel. I challenge people to step out of their comfort zone and get involved in just one state prison crusade or Friday Night parish prison meeting. You will never be the same.

God Bless,

Jim Cupit

InnerFaith Prison Ministry, in its 30 years of ministry to inmates and their families, bring before you a team of individuals with a passion to see broken lives restored by a Living God.

We are committed to minister to brothers and sisters in Christ, and non-believers as well, inside prisons, proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ, acknowledging the whole body of Christ, and encouraging the church to fulfil the Great Commission according to Matthew 25:36 “...I was in prison and you visited me…“

Today we have gone from one Bible study a week, to many Bible studies in various prisons. We started with 12 churches, now we have volunteers from over 500 different churches with various backgrounds, and denominations working together to bring souls back to the Kingdom of God.

The desire of this ministry is to evangelize the lost, disciple those who come to Christ, and minister to the whole person. We are always striving to teach, and train them in truth according to the scriptures. In doing so we feel they will be productive citizens not only for the community, but for the Kingdom of God as well. This ministry is based on biblical principles, revealing the heart of God. We believe it is a mandate from God to visit those in prison. When all is said and done our desire is to hear the Master of eternity say, Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord. Matthew 25:23
